History of the Institution
Located in the Kochi Taluk of Ernakulam district, the Vypin Block Panchayat is a local self-government institution that spearheads the social, economic, and infrastructural development of the people of Vypin Island.
Formed as part of Kerala's local self-government system, the Vypin Block Panchayat plays a pivotal role in coordinating the development activities of Grama Panchayats and effectively implementing various government development schemes. It also prioritizes development initiatives driven by public participation, in line with the People's Planning Campaign.
The administrative jurisdiction of the Vypin Block Panchayat comprises five Grama Panchayats: Edavanakkad, Kuzhuppilly, Nayarambalam, Njarakkal, and Pallippuram. The Block Panchayat provides the necessary coordination, as well as technical and administrative support, for development activities within these Grama Panchayats.
The Block Panchayat formulates and implements projects across various sectors, such as agricultural development, animal husbandry, poverty alleviation, social welfare, women and child development, infrastructure development, and the health and education sectors.
Taking into account the unique geography and lifestyle of the coastal, island-like Vypin region, the Block Panchayat focuses on implementing development activities suited to local needs.
Vypin Block Panchayat continues its operations with a focus on public participation, transparency, social justice, sustainable development, and public welfare.
